When the sky turns orange in Dubai, the dust doesn't stop at your window. Fine sand finds its way through closed balconies, under doors and into AC vents, settling on every surface within hours. This is the deep cleaning recovery process our cleaners run after sandstorm season hits a Dubai apartment.

Step 1: Don't Vacuum First, Wipe First

Counter-intuitive, but vacuuming first launches dust back into the air. Start with a damp microfibre wipe-down of every horizontal surface: shelves, counters, TV stands, window sills. This traps the dust before it goes airborne. Use a separate damp cloth per room to avoid spreading sand.

Step 2: AC Vents and Filters

Dubai sandstorms clog AC filters fast. Pop out the filter, rinse it under water, dry fully before reinstalling. Wipe the visible vent slats with a damp cloth. If your AC starts smelling musty or losing airflow, the filter needs full replacement, not just cleaning.

Step 3: Balcony Floor and Drains

Balconies take the worst hit. Sweep loose sand first, then mop with warm water and a small amount of floor cleaner. Check the balcony drain, sand build-up there causes flooding during the next rainfall. Wipe down balcony furniture, glass railings and any plants.

Step 4: Windows and Tracks

Sand settles in window tracks and turns to grit. Use a small brush or vacuum nozzle to clear the tracks first, then wipe with damp cloth. Window glass gets streaky during sandstorm season, use a glass cleaner with microfibre cloth, never paper towel.

Step 5: Soft Furnishings and Curtains

Sofa cushions, curtains and rugs hold sand inside the fibres. Take cushions outside and pat them firmly. Vacuum curtains using the upholstery attachment from top to bottom. Heavy build-up means it's time for a sofa shampoo or carpet steam, both reset the fabric properly.

Step 6: Floors, Vacuum, Then Mop

Now that surfaces and soft furnishings are done, vacuum all floors using a HEPA filter if possible. Then mop with warm water and a neutral floor cleaner. Marble and natural stone need a stone-safe product, not regular detergent, which dulls the finish over time.

Step 7: Kitchen and Bathroom Air-Vents

Extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms pull in dust during sandstorms. Unscrew the cover, wash it with warm soapy water, dry, and reinstall. The filter inside the kitchen hood often holds the worst of it, a full degrease every few months keeps the airflow strong.

When to Call in a Professional

If sandstorm season has hit hard or you're prepping for guests, a full post-sandstorm deep clean takes 3–5 hours and resets everything. Cleansy home cleaning in Dubai crews carry HEPA vacuums, microfibre kits and stone-safe products, book online or via WhatsApp.
